Gaby A. Sander, PE
Gaby Sader became an integral part of FUTURA construction management team in May of 2017. He participates in all due diligence work, concept development, planning and underwriting of self-storage facilities in the company’s pipeline. Gaby is characterized by industry leaders as an objective, pragmatic and trustworthy leader with more than thirty-five (35) years of extensive experience in institutional type self-storage facilities at the State, Federal and International levels with a broad mix in private enterprise, government and academia. He has led teams at various phases in the life cycle of the built environment from early planning, through design, construction, operations & maintenance and final disposal. Gaby supports the company’s business plan thru his perpetual ability to look for creative solutions that improve operational efficiency; leveraging expert analysis and insights, team empowerment and best practices.
Gaby began his career managing daily operations of a multi-disciplinary division of managers and personnel working for a statewide government agency with a diverse portfolio of capital projects. He developed budgets, allocated resources, planned project workload, and supervised staff, while leading projects in the traditional Design/ Bid/ Construct and Design-Build method, using such alternatives as accelerated phased construction and modular building construction.
In 2004 Gaby decided to transfer from the public sector to private enterprise when he joined a growing general contracting company to streamlined and direct the company’s business plan and procedural guidelines; including, business development, pre-construction, procurement, contract administration, safety management, human resources, fleet and risk management. He also developed and implemented a corporate safety program that, in a short period of one year, won a National Award from The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). Shortly after, he led a team on international projects designing and building US embassies from Africa to the Middle East and on to Far East Asia.
Gaby is also Co-Owner and Executive Vice President of Boardwalk Storage Solutions, LLC, a construction management firm dedicated entirely to the service of its clients in the self-storage industry – from national REIT’s to large regional owners and the first-time owner-operators. The firm is deeply rooted in the broader aspects of self-storage operations and the specific challenges and opportunities associated with managing each project from early concept formulation thru planning, design, construction and operations. Washington International Contractors was his first company providing consulting services to a consortium of companies (US and International) pursuing large-scale institutional projects in Middle East and North Africa.
Gaby served as adjunct faculty member for many years at UMASS, Lowell and Northeastern University. Gaby has been a frequent contributor/volunteer to various committees at professional associations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers. He served a 4-year tour as a volunteer structural engineer on an Urban Search and Rescue Task Force with FEMA. He is currently a board member of the Maryland Self Storage Association. Gaby holds a Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell (1982 and 1983), and a Master of Business Administration degree from
the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (2002).
